Having been around for centuries, it’s unsurprising the popularity of mosaics as a contemporary art form. However, it took until the renaissance for it t be considered an art form.
Let’s take a look at some popular mosaic artists and their work!
Antoni Gaudí
Well-renowned for its surrealist architecture, Barcelona has only Antoni Gaudí to thank. Gaudí was a Catalan architect who is famous for his distinctive style of free-form colour and texture.
Gaudí established the mosaic design technique known as ‘trencar’ – which means ‘to break’ in Catalonia. This method is used to create mosaics by using broken ceramic tiles from plates and cups and is still used by artists today.
A testament to his creativity and genius, Gaudí’s beautiful mosaic creations can be found all over Barcelona. Be sure to check them out!
