Mosaic tiling can have a huge impact on a room’s overall look or mood, whether it’s used as an accent or a statement piece. And, while domestic installations don’t tend to be overly artistic, mosaics allow for some expression of personal style. Their smaller scale makes mosaics a particularly effective design tool; they can be utilized minimally as trim in a bathroom or kitchen space or as a large-scale art piece.

I recently worked on a project in Plymouth where the client wanted to update and modernise her bathroom. She wanted the colour of the floor tiles to coordinate with the entire room as a whole. The room was small so we chose light and bright colours to make the it feel brighter and larger.

At first glance, mosaics might seem a right pain to install, but they’re really not. A common misconception is that you have to painstakingly grout around each mosaic piece but this isn’t the case at all. Mosaics come in tile-like square panels held together with a fabric mesh that are fixed to walls and floors in the same way as you would ceramic or porcelain tiles.
